Captain's Log

Star Trek Explorer

Engage! • EXPLORING THE STAR TREK UNIVERSE

MATHEMATICALLY PERFECT! • It’s difficult to reconcile the warm-hearted and gregarious Kether Donohue with her Star Trek: Lower Decks manipulative and conniving alter-ego, Peanut Hamper. Unlike the narcissistic exocomp with the “mathematically perfect name”, if you ever meet Kether, you can expect hugs and a whole load of validation coming your way. Star Trek Explorer had a chance to catch up with the voice performer of the deceitful exo-comp before the SAG-AFTRA strike, asking about her work on the animated show – and how someone so diametrically different to Peanut Hamper can play the character so well.

A FLAWED HERO? • Todd Stashwick absolutely killed it as Captain Liam Shaw during Star Trek: Picard’s third and final season. He brought drama, action, humor, attitude, and pathos, and often did so from moment to moment, as the character evolved from a hiss-worthy jerk to a hero mourned.

PERFECTLY IMPERFECT

LOOKING BACK • The accomplished actress reflects on her acting career.

DIANA MULDAUR'S STAR TREK CHARACTERS

FASHION GURU • Costumer Bernadette Croft makes space fashionable for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

LARRY NEMECEK'S A FISTFUL OF DATA • MAKING SENSE OF THE FUTURE

CANON FODDER • PUTTING CONTINUITY IN THE FIRING LINE

LOST & FOUND • ARCHIVE IMAGES RETRIEVED

TOP 10 STARFLEET CAPTAINS

LIFE AND LEGACY OF DOCTOR PULASKI • When Doctor Beverly Crusher left the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D to spend a year as the head of Starfleet Medical, Doctor Katherine Pulaski transferred aboard and became the flagship’s chief medical officer. Pulaski’s straightforward demeanor differed from that of her predecessor, but she soon found herself solving curious cases and being welcomed as part of the crew… at least for the brief period she was assigned to the vessel!

WORK WORTH DOING

CURING & CARING IN THE FUTURE • - THE TREKNOLOGY OF MEDICAL TREATMENT

STARFLEET ACADEMY • In this never-before-published interview, recorded in 1993, with the late Harve Bennett, the veteran producer recalls his struggles to make the Star Trek prequel.

THE DEFINITIVE GUIDE TO… STAR TREK PRODIGY

Great Jupiter! • Back in 2016, IDW launched a three-volume hardcover set reprinting the British Star Trek comic strips, which Eaglemoss then repurposed for four volumes of its Star Trek Graphic Novel Collection. I worked with IDW’s Library of American Comics (LOAC) imprint to get these books produced, then assisted on the Eaglemoss iterations as well, putting forty eight long-forgotten tales in readers’ hands. Several people proved instrumental in making that happen, but one individual’s contribution has long gone unacknowledged. He’s journalist Hart Sastrowardoyo, and he was the catalyst for a quarter-century quest.
