Jennifer Lim narrates this novel clearly and deliberately. Young teacher Maggie Topper finds inspiration in a sixth-grade student with health problems whom she has agreed to tutor. Bright, young Yuri emigrated from Ukraine with his parents in the wake of the Chernobyl disaster. Even in the face of his medical condition, he maintains a curiosity and wisdom that prompt Maggie to chart new paths in her own life. With a gentle touch, Lim brings to life the dedicated and patient Maggie. Lim's pacing is comfortable, and her delivery varied. She also provides a youthful voice for Yuri and Ukrainian accents for his parents, which help to delineate the characters. S.E.G. © AudioFile 2019, Portland, Maine
